Forgot It at Home? 7 Resources You Didn’t Know We Had Right in The Valentine Room!
Ever arrived at a shoot and discovered, to your great dismay, that you left something kind of important at home? That feeling of your heart sinking in your chest can sometimes throw off your shoot for a minute.
We don’t want that for you, so we made a list of items that commonly get left at home so you don’t have to worry about them at your next shoot!
FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS
Tripod
Tripods get left at home all the time. When you need that steady shot, there’s no substitute for a tripod... so when you forget to bring yours (and all photographers do occasionally!), you can really be stuck. Fortunately, if you forget yours on a trip to The Valentine Room, we have one for you.
Reflector
Window light is the absolute best light for portraits, which is why photographers to The Valentine Room swoon over our three tall windows that let in a stunning morning glow. But with windows along just one wall, at certain hours that light can cast shadows a little harsher than are ideal for portraits.
A reflector is an easy solution to this dilemma! Placing a reflector opposite the windows, bounces a lot of that light back, filling in harsh shadows and making skin appear softer and more even.
What if you didn’t bring a reflector, though? We got you! The opposite side of our seasonal rolling wall backdrop (currently a moody charcoal color) is a white wall that makes a perfect reflector for those hours when the sun is just a bit too bright!
Ladder
Those top-down shots that Instagram made famous are often impossible to get if you’re not able to climb up high to squeeze everything into the frame… especially if you only ever carry a 50mm lens! Ladders are such an easy thing to forget at home, or even in the trunk of your car. Don’t waste time running back and forth--our four-step ladder is always on-site!
Backdrops, Backdrop Stand, + Tape
If you’re one of our members*, you have access to four colored backdrops that can make one photo shoot look like many, or just disguise the location a bit.
Along with the backdrops, we provide the stands (you’ll find them inside the zippered black bag). We also have the sturdy tape you’ll need to secure the backdrops to the floor once rolled out so that they don’t move during shooting, and a paper cutter for easily trimming the backdrops, when needed.
Easy Cleanup
Staging photos gets messy fast! Not to fret, though, we have plenty of cleaning supplies including a Swiffer, glass cleaner, and paper towels for quick and easy cleanup!
FOR PHOTOGRAPHY CLIENTS & SUBJECTS
Lint roller
You’re paying a pretty penny for your photos, so you want to look your best right? Then a lint roller is your best friend. Even just riding over to the studio in your car can attract all sorts of lint, hair, and other distractions to your carefully-chosen outfit.
If you’re not used to having your photos taken, though, you might not think to pack a lint roller for the occasion. That’s okay! We keep one on hand for those last-second fixes!
Seating & Props
Sometimes it’s so easy to get caught up with “What do I wear? What do I do with my hair/makeup?” that considering how we will pose or what props we need sort-of falls off the radar.
At The Valentine Room, we have a variety of seating options for your photos so you don’t have to worry about what to do with your limbs. We have a modern stool, a wicker chair, a sofa, a luxurious leather chair, and a giant wooden conference table with two mid century-style chairs to relax into and diversify your images.
Additionally around the studio we have a range of small items that can be used to fill the frame of your shot, including side tables, plants, and a fashionable room divider that adds that perfect pop of warmth to any photo!
